Trust In Your Gut
May 23, 2007 · Leave a Comment
In my first blog entry “Here’s The Skinny” I detailed how I became an Accidental Slacker. The odds were stacked against me, but I had a gut feeling things were going to work out sooner than later.
In a reasonably short amount of time I gained employment, a place to live, and my past relationship is a work in progress. All of these are temporary solutions, but they are steps in the right direction, and reinforce the personal fact that I am making progress. I was in an extremely stressful emotional and financial predicament. I did not know how things would work out, but in my gut somewhere I knew that they would. Although I can’t say it was easy, I focused on a solution and kept a positive mental attitude. And I am still working.
I was reading a recent post on the Trump University blog called “Prescience” . Trump writes “You can’t always give precise reasons why or why not something will work, but you will somehow know it. That feeling will give you a lot of energy and confidence, even in the face of contradictory indications. Work on developing that instinct! Certain things are inexplicable. ”
From New York to Hollywood, many extraordinary things have happened to me based on those fore-mentioned principles. Whether it’s career, money, relationships, or life learn to trust your instincts. No matter how bad things get, if you focus, never give up, and have good intentions, things tend to work out sooner than later.
Until next time, “Happy Hunting.” Goodnight and Good Luck.

No, this is not a posting for Donald Trump’s The Apprentice, on NBC. I got offered a position today, and start on this coming Tuesday. “We’d like to offer you the position,” has got to be the sweetest seven words any job hunter can hear.

Another Interview
May 7, 2007 · Leave a Comment
It’s been a week since I last posted. I’ve been swamped with moving and getting situated. I put all my stuff in storage and am comfortably crashing at a friend’s place. I’m going to tie this job down first, then look for an apartment in a few weeks.
I have another interview coming up in a couple of days. I did my homework on the company and I’m actually looking forward to the interview. I’ve been interviewing a lot lately, and oddly enough it’s starting be a little fun in a weird way. Because a good deal of my work experience is in marketing, I’ve started to look at these interviews as if I’m making a marketing pitch. I just so happen to be the brand or the product. Perspective changes everything, and I guess that’s why it’s starting to be fun.
The process is starting to be pretty predictable. I was web surfing and found a list of 50 common interview questions , and most of the questions I’ve been asked is on this list. I’ve also been checking out the Brazen Careerist blog, and the interviewing category has some useful resources. Another useful job hunting website is quintcareers.com. I was on this site for an hour the other night.
Well until next time. Happy hunting.

Perhaps This Is Progress

I have not posted in a few days. Things have been hectic to say the least. As you know, April was my last month at my apartment. So I have been busy packing, getting my stuff into storage, as well as getting a job. Well the good news is that my stuff is packed….lol.
I’m storing my stuff in a friend’s basement and couch surfing for a few weeks. Yes, this is the glamorous life of an Accidental Slacker. Kids don’t try this at home…lol.
As far as the job hunting, I’ve had a few promising interviews. I’ve also registered with a few staffing agencies. So it’s wait for call back time. On a promising note I interviewed with www.integritystaffing.com yesterday, and they has scheduled me for an interview with www.exceedcorporation.com this Thursday. It’s a an analyst job and the pay is pretty good. If this works out well I should be able to move back into an apartment in center city by June.
So I’m going to do my homework and even cross my fingers. Wish me luck!

Here’s The Skinny
April 11, 2007 · 1 Comment
As fate would have it, I have become an Accidental Slacker in the last few weeks. I recently moved back to Philly from New York five months ago with my girlfriend. We broke up two weeks ago. I was in between jobs before the breakup, so this has put a significant financial strain on me. So here’s my situation, “in a nutshell.”
1).stuck with an apt that I can’t afford by myself (she was my roommate)
2). I have to find a new apt in three weeks.
3). I need to find a job in the next two weeks. This is most important, because I have little to no savings. A big move and transition will do that to your bank account.
Murphy’s Law is in complete and total effect. I recently finished a freelance consulting gig, so as of right this moment I am unemployed. Circumstance has made me an Accidental Slacker, but I am working on a plan. This blog is part journal, part catharsis, part progress tracker, and my way of keeping score. I hope you enjoy my adventures in job world. Happy Hunting:)
